Southern Hemisphere Mining (ASX:SUH) reports the existence of a large porphyry/breccia system following re-interpretation of the geological system at its Llahuin copper project and the nearby Colina2 gold-copper project in Chile.
The results, generated by logging of recent diamond drilling (DD) in conjunction with relogging of the historic diamond core, indicate that the substantial breccia system is evident across the whole Central Porphyry deposit.
Recent diamond drilling also suggests it may continue across the Cerro and Ferro deposits.

It is noted that these results are considered a positive for the project and are expected to add to the ability to scale up on open pit and deeper underground targets to add to its copper/gold endowment.
Southern Hemisphere also notes that these results include the best result received to date from drillhole DDLLA021, returning an intercept of 440m @ 0.75% Cu-Eq, incl. 208m @ 1.2% Cu-Eq from 2m depth.
In addition, rock chip samples taken from the Colina2 demonstrate many ‘high-grade’ copper oxide targets with a best result of 3.04% Cu (3.88% CuEq), as well as 92g/t Ag in the northwest region of the project area.
Rock chip results also indicate that the Colina2 project has ‘significant’ unrealised potential for ‘significant’ near surface copper/gold and silver mineralisation, while also demonstrating the potential for sulphide mineralisation at depth.
The Llahuin copper-gold project represents an advanced copper-gold-moly deposit located close to the city of Illapel in Chile’s Coquimbo Region. The project is 100% owned by Southern Hemisphere and currently boasts a growing copper-gold resource of 428kt Cu and 597k Oz Au for 149Mt @ 0.41% CuEq. Both the Llahuin and Colina2 projects are situated within the newly recognised northwest metallogenic demain which is also host to the giant Los Pelambres Copper Mine.
With results from the recent geological reinterpretation now returned, Southern Hemisphere announces that further low-cost soil and rock chip sampling targeting copper, gold and silver is still in progress to generate further drill targets for evaluation.
The company also announces that it is also reviewing several projects within trucking distance of Llahuin to identify ‘higher grade’ potential for the project.
